For me, watching a Christmas film is the best way to get into the holiday spirit. I absolutely love curling up on the couch on a wintery evening with a warm hot chocolate to watch a Christmas film. I have so many that I love that it is hard to pick my favourites! Watching Christmas movies is such a nostalgic thing for me. I remember when I was a little girl my grandparents recorded my favourite Christmas cartoons on blank VHS tapes so that I could watch them whenever I wanted.
So, here are 10 (sort of) holiday films that you will find on my TV this Christmas season.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966 Cartoon and 2000 Film)
A Charlie Brown Christmas
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (1964)
Christmas with the Kranks
Frosty the Snowman (1969)
The Santa Clause (1,2 and 3)
Which film is actually my favourite? The 1966 cartoon version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas wins by a landslide. I still have trouble sleeping in on Christmas even though I am well into my 20’s. When I wake up early I always put the Grinch on my laptop and snuggle in the bed before it is a more acceptable time to wake up.
You’ll notice that a lot of these films are from the 60’s. I guess that was a banging year for Christmas films! To me, Christmas is such a time of tradition I often have trouble bringing myself to watch newer Christmas films. I feel like I am cheating! I would much rather watch these old cartoons than some new CGI film any day.
So, what Christmas films will you be watching during the holidays? Any recommendations for films I should watch this season?
