Adopting our Fur Baby

Adopt Don’t Shop

We didn’t adopt our golden retriever. I was in the search for a cuddly pup long before Lily made her way into my life and her stumbling in was pure fate. A family member had a litter of golden retriever puppies and had one left. We named her Lily.

I am a little sad that Lily came from a breeder because it was a chance to save a pups life and given them two fabulous moms. Since that day I have known that if Allie and I wanted to add to our family we would be adopting (even if it was a real baby, not a fur baby but that is for another day).

My family has always been huge on rescuing animals, and not just the traditional animals! Sure we had our fair share of cats and a sweet rescued farm dog but we had tons of odd creatures too. Lizards, snakes, and birds – oh my! There was never a dull moment in our home. Remind me to tell you about the time I raised a baby racoon…

Name: Ferguson Black
Birthday: April 27, 2017
Adoption Day: December 29, 2017

Meet FERGUSON. This little furball was waiting for us for a long time! He is only 9 months old but hasn’t had a place to call home yet, but his foster parents treated him pretty well.

Allie picked his name. Any guesses what he is named after? If you guessed Winston’s cat from New Girl you would be right! She wanted to name him Shmidt, but I drew the line.

Me? I have a soft spot in my heart for black cats. This is my forth! The sad fact of the matter is that black cats have a harder time finding homes.

We adopted our little bundle of joy from Keeping Cats Homed, a cat adoption agency based on Prince Edward Island. They work tirelessly to not just find loving forever homes for cats but to lower the ever-expanding cat population – like Bob Barker, remember to spay or neuter your pets.

We are obsessed with this little monkey. He is the perfect mix of snuggle bug and playful kitten. We need to take down our Christmas trees though because he thinks they are special cat toys. He loves his big sister but she wants to play with him and he is a little unsure about a 76-pound dog running after him.

Welcome home, Ferg. Your mamas love you bunches already.

This is adorable. I totally agree with adopt vs. shop! I feel like myself and my partner relate to you two so much it’s crazy! We’re also from Nova Scotia and both follow you and Allie. I enjoy seeing people much like us – a femme lesbian couple. Also, sorry to be talking about things completely unrelated to your post… cats truly are an essential to happy living and I’m so happy for Ferguson in finding a purrfect home with you gals (ha, like that I did there?)

HAHAH Allie would love that pun! Thanks so much for following. We really don’t meet many other femme lesbian couples, let alone in Nova Scotia!!

Aww so cute! My boyfriend and I adopted out cat in May 🙂 She’s grey and white and her names Luna. She’s about 1-1/2 years old and super cuddly! Best thing I’ve ever done 🙂
