Lush Sleepy Lotion – Review

For the past couple of months, I have been having a lot of trouble sleeping. I’m desperate for something to help… I mean something has to help eventually right? I have been focusing on holistic and natural ways of improving sleep and I feel like I have tried them all without much success.

I’m sure you’ve seen the new product “Sleepy” from Lush all over social media.

This lotion has gone completely viral. It is all over the news and being marketed as “a cure for insomnia”. That sounds pretty amazing right!? Parents are claiming that it helps their babies sleep through the night. Insomniacs are claiming this is helping them finally sleep through the night. Out of 155 reviews on Lush’s website, it has a 4.9/5 star rating and a whopping 99% of users would recommend it to their friends.

These are some pretty big claims, so obviously I had to buy some. Desperate times call for buying social media hype after all. I had heard that it was sold out everywhere but was able to grab a tub from Lush after the sales person grabbed me some from the back.

The look

The lotion is a lovely lilac colour. I am so in love with pale purple so this was a nice start.

The smell

The lotion smells of lavender and tonka, a dreamy combination. I absolutely love the smell and it is very soothing. Lavender has long been used as a natural sleep aid, but I think tonka is there just to smell nice. I’ll be honest, I had no idea what tonka is and totally had to Google it. Overall, the scent is pretty strong, but people say that is part of what helps them sleep.

The feel

The lotion is a really nice moisturizer. It’s easily absorbed and easy to rub in. It has both almond oil and cocoa butter in it which are both amazing for your skin.

The verdict

Both Allie and I have been trying this lotion for about a week now. I suffer from restless legs and have trouble staying asleep in the night. I am often up for long periods of time in the night with short bursts of sleep in between. Allie gets very anxious in the night and has trouble falling asleep if her mind gets racing.

Neither of us have noticed a drastic change in our sleep since starting Sleepy. I am still waking up often in the night and Allie has noticed no difference at all.

If you are looking for a good night time lotion I would definitely recommend Sleepy for that. It smells divine and there is something to be said about taking a little time for self-care before bed. Just don’t buy it for its supposed magical sleep powers, or you might be disappointed.
